Yes — we provide free on-site estimates for all jobs. For smaller, straightforward projects we can often quote by phone or after reviewing photos of the property. For larger or more complex jobs, we'll schedule a site visit to walk the property with you before providing a quote.

Yes. Boneyard Habitat & Land Management is fully insured. We carry liability insurance to protect your property and our crew throughout every job. We're happy to provide proof of insurance upon request before work begins.

Forestry mulching is a single-step land clearing method that uses a specialized machine — in our case, an FAE forestry mulcher on a New Holland compact track loader — to grind trees, brush, stumps, and vegetation into fine mulch in a single pass. The mulch is spread on-site, improving soil health and suppressing future weed growth. There's no burning, no hauling, and no separate stump grinding needed.

Our FAE forestry mulcher handles trees up to approximately 8–10 inches in diameter effectively. For larger timber, we typically recommend felling those trees first before mulching. We'll assess your property during the quote and let you know if any pre-treatment is needed.

For most residential and recreational properties, yes. Traditional clearing with bulldozers and brush piles requires burning permits, debris hauling, and separate stump grinding — all adding cost and time. Forestry mulching does it all in one pass, leaves a natural mulch ground cover, causes far less soil disturbance, and is typically faster and more cost-effective for properties under 50 acres.

No — the mulch left behind is actually beneficial. It suppresses weed and brush regrowth, retains soil moisture, reduces erosion, and breaks down naturally to improve soil quality over time. It's not a pile of debris — it's a fine layer of ground material spread evenly across the cleared area.

Job duration depends on acreage, density of vegetation, terrain, and the specific service. A small residential lot might be completed in a half day. A multi-acre wooded property could take several days. We'll give you a realistic time estimate during your quote walkthrough.

We can cut trails from approximately 6 feet wide up to 12–14 feet depending on your goals. Hunting lanes are typically cut narrower for concealment. ATV access trails and wider equipment access roads can be cut to your specification. We discuss trail width and layout during the planning phase before work begins.

Yes — this is one of our favorite parts of the job. Owner Jeremy Lewis has 30+ years of hunting experience in North Carolina and genuinely understands how to position trails for maximum wildlife impact. We walk the property with you and discuss stand locations, game movement patterns, and property goals before cutting a single trail.

Our primary setup is a New Holland compact track loader paired with an FAE forestry mulching head. The compact track loader is designed for low ground pressure, minimizing damage to soil and existing vegetation. We also operate a brush hog / rotary cutter for field mowing applications. Our equipment is maintained to commercial standards and operated by experienced hands.

Our compact track loader has a significantly lower ground pressure footprint than larger forestry equipment, which minimizes turf and soil damage. That said, any heavy equipment will leave some impression on soft or wet ground. We discuss property access routes, sensitive areas, and any existing landscaping during our pre-job walkthrough so we can plan accordingly.

We monitor weather and soil conditions closely. Working on saturated ground risks equipment getting stuck and causes unnecessary soil disturbance. In some cases we'll reschedule to protect your property. We'll always communicate about weather-related delays in advance.

Forestry mulching is typically priced by the hour or by the acre depending on the job scope. Factors that affect price include vegetation density, terrain difficulty, acreage, and accessibility. We provide a detailed quote after evaluating your specific property — there are no generic per-acre rates because no two properties are the same.

For most jobs, yes — we require a deposit to hold your spot on the schedule. The specific deposit amount and payment terms are outlined in your service agreement. We accept multiple payment methods and are happy to discuss payment options if you have questions.

Yes. We clear and prepare food plot sites using our forestry mulcher — removing trees, stumps, brush, and roots in a single pass and leaving behind a seedbed-ready surface. Food plot clearing is included as part of our Wildlife Habitat Management service.
